Maui Sunriders offers a self-guided Haleakala Downhill Bike Tour that begins at an elevation of 6,500 feet and ends at their bike shop in Paia. The tour includes a narrated van tour on the way up the mountain, providing information about local history and points of interest. Riders have the freedom to make stops and enjoy the picturesque views of Maui as they bike downhill. The bike ride is approximately 5 hours long, with an average start time of 10:30am. Riders must return their bikes by 1:30pm. Maui Sunriders provides Front-Suspension Single-Speed Mountain Bikes with disc brakes, helmets, rain gear, gloves, and a backpack with a lock and road map. Riders are advised to dress in light layers, wear closed-toe shoes, bring sunglasses, sunscreen, cash for meals and shopping, and a camera. Safety guidelines include a minimum age of 15, minimum height of 4'11", and a maximum weight of 300 pounds. Riders must be competent and experienced cyclists, able to navigate country roads with switchbacks, and confident in using disc brakes.
