Swimming with the manatees on Homosassa River is a magical once in a lifetime experience offered from November to February during manatee season. Manatees are the most humble and docile aquatic mammals that make the crystal clear springs their home in the winter. It is a privilege to swim with them and to ensure their safety, it is important to respect their space and not disrupt their natural behavior. On the boat ride to the springs, the experienced and knowledgeable captain teaches you all about manatee behavior, anatomy, and why the river and springs are important for their survival. All gear is provided, including wetsuits, mask/snorkel, and a float, so just bring a towel, dry clothes, and a bathing suit. The boat is clean and comfortable with plenty of space, and small groups ensure a more personal experience. This unforgettable 3-hour manatee encounter costs $85 per person for a minimum of 2 people or $425 for a private boat of 1-6 people. Homosassa Springs Marina is the meeting point, and the best encounter is at 8am daily. In addition to swimming with the manatees, manatee observation cruises and kayak adventures are also offered.
