Adventure Details
The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course offers the opportunity to explore sunken ships, airplanes, and cars that are teeming with aquatic life. Whether purpose-sunk as artificial reefs or lost due to accidents, wrecks provide a fascinating window into the past. This course is popular among divers looking for rewarding adventures while adhering to responsible wreck diving practices. Participants in the Wreck Diver Specialty course must be at least 15 years old and have a PADI Adventure Diver certification or higher. The academic portion of the course covers safety considerations, surveying and mapping wrecks, using penetration lines and reels, and techniques to avoid disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants. The first dive may count as an Adventure Dive towards an Advanced Open Water Diver certification. To get started, divers need their basic scuba equipment along with a dive light, slate, underwater compass, and line and reel for wreck penetration. It is recommended to get a PADI Wreck Diver Manual and Wreck Diving video from a local PADI Dive Center and Resort before meeting with a PADI Instructor to discuss the wrecks to be visited during the open water dives.
