Adventure Details

In 1955, the Isaiah Davenport House, a historic c. 1820 building in Savannah, was slated for demolition to make way for a parking lot. However, a group of seven women banded together to save the house, leading to the formation of the Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF). This grassroots effort to save one building ultimately sparked a movement that would go on to preserve the entire city of Savannah. The Davenport House was eventually opened as a museum in 1963, thanks to the efforts of the HSF, and continues to be preserved to this day. Today, visitors can experience the rich history of Savannah by visiting the Isaiah Davenport House. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $12 for students aged 18-21, and $10 for children aged 6-17. The museum's hours of operation are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 3:30pm. Guests can explore the beautifully preserved rooms of the Davenport House and learn about the pivotal role it played in the preservation of Savannah's historic architecture. The story of the Isaiah Davenport House highlights the importance of historic preservation and community activism.
