Explore Maui Nature offers Maui Birding Tours every Tuesday and/or Thursday for bird enthusiasts looking to discover the diverse bird species of Maui. The tour includes a visit to the summit of Haleakala National Park to spot native birds such as the ‘Apapane, ‘I’iwi, and Nene, as well as a trip to Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge to observe the Hawaiian Stilt and Coot. Participants will learn about the ecology, history, and myths of Maui while enjoying complimentary refreshments and a picnic lunch. Participants can expect a full day of bird watching and exploration, with the tour lasting approximately 7 hours. The tour begins with pick up from the Southside of Maui or a meeting point at Maui Tropical Plantation. Binoculars are provided at no extra charge to enhance the birding experience, and a checklist of Maui birds, including their Hawaiian names, is provided for reference. The tour also includes visits to key birding spots at different elevations for a chance to see a variety of bird species in their natural habitats. Due to the impact of avian malaria on native bird populations, participants will travel to higher elevations to increase the chances of spotting native species. Temperatures at Haleakala can be significantly cooler than sea level, so participants are advised to bring appropriate clothing such as a rain jacket and hoodie. This immersive birding adventure offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature and witness the beauty of Maui's birdlife in stunning natural settings. - Maui Birding Tours available every Tuesday and/or Thursday - Explore Haleakala National Park and Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge - Binoculars provided at no extra charge - TLDR
