Experience the thrill of whitewater kayaking with a 2-day clinic designed for beginners and novices. Led by friendly professional instructors who are ACA certified, this clinic provides a solid foundation in the sport of kayaking. Participants will learn fundamental river skills such as leans, setting angles, and performing eddy turns and peel outs in a fun and supportive environment. The clinic includes all necessary equipment, instruction, catered picnic-style lunch, and transportation to and from paddling sites. The first day of the clinic focuses on introducing participants to the sport of kayaking and basic strokes in a pond setting before moving on to river maneuvers like eddy turns and peel outs. The second day continues to build on these skills with a run down a Class I-II section of the river. The goal of the clinic is to teach beginner paddlers the essential skills of river kayaking in whitewater kayaks and set them on a path towards independent paddling. Participants should be at least 14 years old and come prepared with appropriate clothing and gear for paddling in cool river waters. Clothing and gear recommendations include synthetic long underwear, fleece or wool socks, a bathing suit, and a fleece or wool jacket/sweater for cooler weather. Participants should also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, nose plugs, a towel, required medications, and extra money for snacks or souvenirs. Zoar Outdoor provides all necessary kayaking equipment, including a boat, wetsuit, paddle jacket, booties, life jacket, helmet, paddle, and sprayskirt.
