The Kayak Paddle Stroke & Safety Primer is a 4-hour training course designed to help paddlers learn and refine essential paddle strokes and maneuvers. Participants will have the opportunity to work on strokes such as the low brace, forward and reverse strokes, sweeps, rudders, and draws. The course also covers important rescues like the assisted T-rescue and self-rescue techniques. Included in the course is a kayak, paddle, and PFD for participants to use free of charge. This is especially beneficial for beginners who are still exploring different kayak options. Participants with their own kayak may be required to use one provided by the course if theirs is deemed unsafe. Dressing appropriately for the weather and being prepared for complete immersion is essential for all rescue classes. Participants are encouraged to bring extra layers for cold weather, drinking water, sun protection, and any necessary gear for a day on the water.
