Adventure Details
The Mad River Slough boat adventure is a 3-hour excursion perfect for birdwatchers and marine wildlife enthusiasts. Participants will have the opportunity to spot migratory birds, shorebirds, ducks, and geese while exploring the diverse wildlife refuge in Humboldt. Located just west of Arcata, the Mad River Slough was originally used by loggers to float logs to the mill yards on Humboldt Bay. Today, it serves as a sanctuary for a variety of bird species, including Red-tailed Hawks, Kestrels, and Osprey. Participants may also see ducks, Aleutian Geese, Snow Geese, and Pacific Black Brant depending on the season. Participants are encouraged to wear non-cotton clothing, bring a change of clothes, water, sunscreen, snacks, and optional items such as a waterproof camera or binoculars. Gratuity is not included in the tour price, and guides work hard to ensure a memorable and educational experience for all guests.
